The Joslyn Universal Vac-Rupter?/font> Interrupter (UVI) converts an isolating switch into a load interrupter switch. The Vac-Rupter allows the switch to be used for full load interruption up to 34.5kV or for the reduced recovery voltage application of loop splitting or parallel switching up to 230kV depending upon system voltage, grounding considerations of the system and load, and the characteristics of the load. Universal Vac-Rupters can be quickly mounted on most types of group operated isolating switches of all manufacturers. Conversion of an existing air switch is easily achieved since no special tools or training is required. Procedures are simple for installing the interrupter, fixed and moving arc horns, and verifying proper operation. Adding a Vac-Rupter will not affect the mechanical operation of the switch. The UVI can also be applied for line dropping and cable switching at system voltages to 25kV, but can be extended to 72.5kV with the Voltage Limiter attachment. |
